about

Aleaciones y Venas de Metales (Alloys and Veins of Metal)

An alloy is a combination of metals or other elements that can be stronger than its component parts. A similar phenomenon can be observed when people from different cultures get together and learn from one another, create things or even bear children together. There has never been one pure state of being human. We have always been in dialogue with our surroundings and with each other. As we have used alloys to innovate and build stronger structures, we should endeavor to melt down cultural barriers and celebrate the combining of creative forces.

Aleaciones (lyrics)

Todo lo que vemos, tocamos, sentímos, olemos,
todo viene de la tierra.
A ella todo regresa,
todo lo reclama.
Ah… tantas formas, infinitamente caprichosas,
irrepetibles, siempre cambiantes.

De las laderas y montañas
que sucumben ante la voracidad humana,
emergen los minerales preciosos.
Seran transformados en metales,
en esqueletos que formaran
las estructuras de las urbes.

Los resíduos despues de las destrucciones
regresan a la tierra.
Muchos terminan en los cementerios de basura.
Otros se reciclan para ser fundidos
y dar vida a nuevas formas.

Artístas visionarios reçuperan
partes de entre los escombros.
Inventivos, integran formas ya existentes.
Utilizando antorchas, soldando,
uniendo confuego, creando nuevas formas
dando nueva vida a los metales
que se hierben entra los espacios abiertos
como queriendo alcanzar a las nubes
que los evaden y ocasionalmente
los bañan con dulzura.

Alloys (translation)

Everything we see, touch, feel, smell,
everything comes from the earth.
Everything returns to her,
for she reclaims everything.
Ah… so many forms, infinitely capricious
unrepeatable, always changing.

From slopes and mountains
which collapse before human voracity,
emerge the precious minerals.
They will be transformed in metals, in skeletons,
foundations of urban structures.
What remains after destruction
returns to the earth.
Much ends up in cemeteries of trash.
Others are recycled to be melted,
giving life to new forms.

Visionary artists recover parts
among the debris.
Inventive, they integrate already existing forms,
using torches, soldering, bonding through fire,
creating new forms, giving new life
to metals, which rise in open spaces,
as if they were trying to reach the clouds,
which evade them and, occasionally,
bathe them in sweetness.
